A bit of a history:
Anita Traynor has had considerable experience in the Australian Art market and has secured a reputation as a leading art advisor. Anita’s main expertise lies in the area of Australian Contemporary Art and Indigenous Art.
After completing a Fine Arts Degree at the University of Melbourne, Anita secured a position as a researcher and art consultant for a leading Melbourne Art Valuer, Andrew Broadway.
Whilst working with Andrew Broadway, Anita gained considerable experience in the art industry. The position involved intensive training in art appraisals and valuations, collating catalogue information and implementing an extensive fine arts library, consulting to clients in all areas of contemporary Australian art.
Following her work with Andrew Broadway, she went on to work at Christies Australia, under the Directorship of Roger Mc Ilroy, a leading figure and art expert in the industry. Christie’s, at the time, was a thriving auction house and her duties were immensely varied and involved organizing the art works for auction nights, cataloguing and client liaison.
Further, Anita was head hunted to manage the Melbourne based Agathon Gallery, which forged the careers of the very successful and widely acclaimed indigenous artists, Tommy Watson and Regina Wilson. Agathon Gallery in Flinders Lane Melbourne held several major exhibitions by artists from the Irrunytju Community, the most well known being Tommy Watson, who now holds the record for a living ‘indigenous artist’s work sold at auction.
After leaving Agathon to pursue her love of the contemporary art market, Anita went on to work as the Senior Art Consultant at Metro Gallery, which boasts one of Australia’s finest artist stables, including the celebrated John Olsen, Michael Johnson, Michael Peck and many prominent International artists such as Damien Hirst, Blek Le Rat and Swoon.

Metro Gallery is also home to the Metro Art Award…which is well recognized within the art industry for promoting the careers of some of Australia’s finest talents, including Ben Quilty, Sam Leach, Jason Benjamin, Michael Muir, Vincent Fantauzzo, Dane Lovett and much more. Anita also curated several exhibitions at Metro and had by this time already established a large personal client base. The Winter Solstice Exhibition, brought together all the artists at Metro, exhibiting works of 120 x 120 around the subject of the winter solstice and was very well received and the first time that the gallery had successfully brought all of its artist’s together in the one exhibition.
Anita also studied Interior Design and has managed to incorporate this with her independent art consultancy business over the last few years. Working alongside some of the finest designers and architects in the field, she has been able to provide a fine selection of contemporary art for a discerning client base.
“My love of art has always driven me, it is my passion and always will be….at present I am enjoying having the freedom to select art from a diverse market place and also source works from artist studio’s and through the secondary market…..my purpose is to offer a personalized approach and assist my clients to purchase works of art that have a strong investment quality and are ‘gallery worthy’…. but ultimately my aim is to satisfy my clients brief and offer them excellent quality art works that they will love for a lifetime…I am also deriving immense satisfaction from managing a small group of artists, all of whom have rather different styles, and have come to me for personal advice and career management, my aim is to take them to the next stage in their careers, hold solo and group exhibitions of their works and hopefully kick start their artistic careers to a level that sees them launched into the market place with a greater public awareness and recognition.
